Charles Y. Wu, 79,（吳永仁） of Andover passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston. Born in Taiwan, he was the son of the late Chin-Fu and A-Li (Tseng) Wu. 

Mr. Wu was raised and educated in Taiwan. He emigrated from Taiwan in December 1969 and lived and worked for many years in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He worked as a training instructor for Ontario Hydro and took early retirement after many years of service when the company downsized. Wanting to be productive, he came to Massachusetts in 1999 to work for Servomex in Norwood. Mr. Wu remained in Massachusetts after his retirement and in 2007, moved to live in Andover to be close to family.

Mr. Wu is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Memi (Hong) Wu(洪蜜) of Andover; son, Dr. James Wu and his wife, Janice of Andover; and his grandchildren, Elaine, Christine, and Aaron. He is also survived by his five sisters, Linda (Wu) Yang in Los Angeles, CA and four sisters in Taiwan - Hui-ching (Wu) Liang, Hui-ching (Wu) Chen, Huei-Chi (Wu) Wang and Huei-Min (Wu) Chung.

Charles was always determined to live a life of purpose, even in his retirement. After his diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), Charles wanted to participate in any efforts that would prevent others from having to experience this cancer that he battled bravely. Charles greatly appreciated all the care he received at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and in particular the care he received from his physicians, Drs. Richard Stone and Robert Soiffer, who offered him their best and provided Charles with several months of good quality life.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate the life of Charles Wu at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., Methuen. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.
