1888.01.17 Tues. Rain

Ther. 64'. ---

The sun arose for a while; but soon became covered with clouds. We started at 8 A.M. and made no-rest until we got to Sin-sia(新社) where we had dinner and I preached, extracted teeth and saw sick converts before leaving for Teng-siang-khoe (頂雙溪)where we arrived about 1 P.M. under rain. All the hills around continued covered with clouds and the rain falling in Sheets till dark---when all around came in I addressed them and retired wearied.

 1888.01.18 Wed.

 Ther. 69'. Made an early start and over the hills walked till about 3 P.M. got to Kelung(雞籠/基隆) and extracted many teeth then preached------

 1888.01.19 Thurs.

 Ther. 65'. Took a boat to Sek-khau (錫口/松山then chaired it to Bang-kah(艋舺), And soon called on Li-ko-kang(李高功) about very important Mission Matters.

 After dark called on Li-chhun-sien(李春生) also regarding important matters and remained all night in Bang-kah.

 1888.01.20 Fri.

 Ther. 67'.

 ---Had Still to remain in Bang-kah (艋舺)on account of SaN-kak-eng(三角湧/三峽) affairs. Very troublesome-

 1888.01.21 Sat.

 Ther. 68'. Came out to Tamsui (淡水)and at once called on the Consul. Then was busy all day------

 1888.01.22 Sun.

 Ther. 67'.-Forenoon went to a village near by and Spoke for some time and in the afternoon went to the Hospital and preached. In the eve. Students and all assembled in my Study- room and we had a good meeting.

 Ther. 68'.  The whole day long engaged arranging Mission Matters, Such as troubles, Students work, girls Studies. Retired late, wearied and exhausted.

 1888.01.24 Tues.

 Ther. 65'. Very trying weather indeed cloudy and the rain only drizzling at times. Mrs. M not well. Taught in the College all day , service at night.

 Heavy rain

 1888.01.25 Wed.

 Ther. 63'.  ----The real heavy rains came on after the drizzling of several days Teaching in the Col. Geology, Geo, the Bible etc. all the Students met in my study room for worship sang till quite late------

 1888.01.26 Thurs.

 Ther. 62'.

 Rain pouring down in torrents all day long. Taught Geology etc. Seng(蔡生), Tsai-a(劉在), Tsun-sim (陳存心)came out to Study. Again in my study room drilling on the formation of rocks. Worship in the eve. all were very much interested and took copious notes. Sang quite a number of hymns------

 Kan-tau (關渡)

 

 1888.01.27 Fri.

 Ther. 65'.

 Bright and early at the college teaching and drilling. Intense interest in all my explanations-----

 1888.01.28 Sat.

 Ther. 64'.

 More of the older preacher came out last night and returned at noon to-day----

 1888.01.29 Sun.

 Ther. 62'.

Cloudy and drizzling, Still we took a boat and our three children went along. Mrs. M(偕牧師娘) did not go. Turned out a fine day, got to Kan-tau (關渡)Distributed Calendars, Hymn books etc. Extracted teeth etc. and returned. At 2 P.M. I preached in the Hospi. Eve. in my Study room. O present.

 Drizzling all day---

 1888.01.30 Mon.

 Ther. 64'.

 ---Very disagreeable, cloudy and wet. Much rain through the night---- Went to teach very early. A very miserable day. Dark, heazy and misty, drizzling all the time. He came out. Tiong-kang(中港) men came up-----

 Rev. Mr. Budd and Dr. Warburg called on me. Had a very interesting meeting in the eve.

 1888.01.31 Tues.

 Ther. 60---Rain, rain, rain. The real raining season set in-----  Early at work again----

 At 4 P.M. all the students and He and Giam chheng Hoa (嚴清華) present-Tsan-un(曾恩) 49 recklessly Speak about another preacher------

 Forgive him. The first to make a mistake therefore forgive him------
